“When you have the best and tastiest ingredients, you can cook very simply and the food will be extraordinary because it tastes like what it is.” ― Alice Waters
Hi! I'm Arisa, a former CPA who traded spreadsheets for sheet pans because I couldn't stop thinking about learning more about food and connecting people over food.
I always enjoyed what I thought was California cuisine or farm-to-table long before I truly understood what those terms really meant. It wasn’t until I started working at Lulu — a Los Angeles restaurant led by the legendary Alice Waters and chef and New York Times Cooking writer David Tanis — that I learned something essential: when you have the highest-quality ingredients, you can let them speak, and you really should let them speak. Having grown up in Japan, where simplicity is celebrated in its cuisine, this philosophy deeply resonated with me.
It’s such a joy to get my hands on fresh whole grain flour and seasonal produce that are locally available. I created May Gray with the passion for highlighting local mills and farmers and reconnecting us with the source of our food. I hope our cookies let you slow down and savor your day just a bit more.
